Privacy Policy

Snowballs is a children's emotional literacy program — storybooks, workbooks, and resources for parents, school counselors, and educators. Snowballs is operated by The Missing Subject Foundation, a Wyoming nonprofit corporation (EIN 42-2199348) with its principal office at 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States ("we," "us," "our," or the "Foundation"). The Missing Subject Foundation is the data controller for personal information collected through snowballs.world.

This policy covers Snowballs only. Other programs and products have their own privacy policies published on their own websites.

This policy applies to:

• The snowballs.world website, including our online store;
• Our email programs (newsletters, parent resources, counselor resources, order updates);
• Counselor and educator accounts, including the Snowballs Counselor Companion;
• Interactions with us at conferences, workshops, and by email.

It does not apply to third-party websites we may link to, or to other brands or companies.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not direct advertising to children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at privacy@snowballs.world and we will delete it promptly.

When schools and districts purchase Snowballs materials or run pilot programs:

• Our relationship is with adults — counselors, teachers, and administrators. Purchases, pilot agreements, and training accounts belong to adult professionals, not students.
• We do not collect, require, or receive student education records or student personally identifiable information, and we do not ask schools to share any. Program feedback we request from educators is about implementation, not about identifiable students.
• Because we do not receive student records, we do not maintain data subject to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). If a specific district agreement ever requires different handling, that agreement will govern and will meet applicable state student-privacy laws.

Information you give us

• Orders: name, email address, shipping and billing address, and order details when you buy from our store.
• Accounts: name, email, school or organization name, and role when you create a counselor or educator account.
• Email sign-ups and quizzes: your email address and your quiz responses when you take one of our quizzes or join a mailing list.
• Forms and correspondence: anything you send us through contact forms, pilot-interest forms, or email.

Information collected automatically

• Device and browser type, pages visited, referring pages, and general (country/region-level) location;
• Cookie and pixel data as described in Section 9.

We do not collect health information, and we never ask for information about individual children.

• To fulfill and ship your orders and provide customer service;
• To provide counselor and educator accounts and resources;
• To send emails you signed up for (see Section 8);
• To understand how our website is used and improve it;
• To advertise our products to adults (see Section 9);
• To comply with law, enforce our terms, and protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Where advertising cookies count as "sharing" under certain state laws, Section 11 explains your opt-out rights.

Our store runs on Shopify. When you check out, your payment card details are collected and processed directly by Shopify and its payment processors — we never see or store your full card number. Shopify processes this data under its own privacy policy and industry-standard payment security (PCI DSS). We receive only what we need to fulfill your order: your name, contact details, shipping address, and what you bought. Order fulfillment may involve a third-party warehouse and shipping carriers, who receive your name and address solely to deliver your order.

• Marketing and resource emails (parent letters, printables, counselor resources, product news) are sent only when you actively opt in — through a quiz, a sign-up form, or a purchase where you choose to subscribe.
• Every marketing email includes a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect promptly and does not affect your orders or account.
• Transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, account notices) are sent as needed and are not marketing.
• We use Klaviyo as our email service provider. Klaviyo stores your email address and engagement data (such as opens and clicks) on our behalf and may use cookies for this purpose.

We use these technologies on snowballs.world:

You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of advertising cookies as described in Section 11. Declining non-essential cookies does not limit your access to the site.

We share personal information only with:

• Service providers who work on our behalf under contract — Shopify (store and payments), Klaviyo (email), fulfillment and shipping partners, and analytics providers listed above;
• Advertising partners (Google, Meta) through the cookies and pixels described in Section 9;
• Legal authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety;
• A successor organization if our nonprofit reorganizes or transfers the program — under the same commitments in this policy.

We never share our lists with unrelated third parties for their own marketing.

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws may have specific rights, including the rights to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of personal information, and the right to opt out of targeted advertising.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

• We do not sell personal information for money. However, our use of advertising cookies and pixels (Section 9) may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law.
• You may opt out of sharing at any time by emailing privacy@snowballs.world with the subject "Opt Out," or by blocking advertising cookies in your browser settings.
• As a nonprofit organization, the Foundation is generally not subject to the CCPA/CPRA — we extend these choices to everyone voluntarily, as a matter of practice.
• We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes requiring a right to limit, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
• We will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

To exercise any right, email privacy@snowballs.world. We will verify your request using the email address associated with your information and respond within the time required by your state's law (and in any case within 30 days where feasible). You may use an authorized agent where your state's law allows.

Wherever you live, you can always:

• Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you;
• Unsubscribe from marketing email with one click;
• Opt out of advertising cookies (Section 11);
• Ask questions about anything in this policy.

We protect personal information with encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable vendors who maintain industry-standard security. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is less to protect. We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above — order records as required by tax and accounting law, email lists until you unsubscribe, and account data while your account is active — then delete or anonymize it.

Snowballs is operated from the United States. We do not run servers of our own — your information is stored and processed by our U.S.-based service providers, principally Shopify (store) and Klaviyo (email), on their cloud infrastructure. If you visit or order from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as contractual protections with our vendors.

When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or a notice on the site. Continued use of the site after changes take effect means the updated policy applies.
